“Many of us who have been left alone by someone we dearly loved still wallow in self pity and incessantly ask ourselves where we went wrong. We waste our time searching for answers that may never be revealed to us. Why can’t we just accept that love doesn’t give us the license to own a person - that love doesn’t guarantee permanence. There are times when we just have to let go of someone who means the world to us not because we want to but because it is the right thing to do. We cannot force anyone to love us when they don’t want to love us anymore. We cannot beg someone to stay when he wants to leave and be with someone else. This is what love is all about. It is all about sacrifice. It is all about learning. It is all about accepting everything without holding anything back or throwing anything away. The end of love is not the end of life. It should be the beginning of understanding that love leaves for a reason. Love leaves with a lesson and it is only when we learn from it that we are able to earn the wisdom and the courage move on and find love again.”

Tip From a Trans* Teacher: as a teacher who is trans myself, one of the things I do to make my classroom a little more inclusive is something I do at the beginning of every term. In my syllabus, along with the notices about documented learning disabilities, religious holidays, and academic honesty: I also put a paragraph about preferred names and pronouns. I ask my students to let me know if they do not use the name on record with the school and would prefer a different name. It's something small, but I think it helps to create a safer space in my classroom. At least I hope so...
